In western Los Angeles County, almost 39,000 people call Culver City home. The town has a rich movie history that started in 1918 when Thomas Ince built the city’s first film studio. MGM built their studio in the 1920s, further establishing the city’s motion pictures and television reputation as “The Heart of Screenland.” Today, the town headquarters MGM studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, National Public Radio West and the NFL Network.

The city offers more than movies, though. Recent redevelopment has brought an increase in jobs, art and restaurants to the area. This growth invites guests to explore the rich architecture, recreation and entertainment offered by the pedestrian friendly city.

Among the historic landmarks, Culver Hotel stands out. Actor John Wayne once owned it, and many stars, including the 1939 Wizard of Oz cast, stayed there. Sony Pictures Plaza attracts architectural fans with its cantilevered building on Washington Boulevard. Visitors frequent restaurants, furniture show rooms and a jazz club at Helms Bakery. King Fahd Mosque features a 70-foot tall minaret and space for 2,000 worshippers. Holy Cross Cemetery serves as the final resting place of several celebrities.

For recreation, visit dozens of area parks. Then ride your bicycle on the Ballona Creek or Culver Boulevard Median paths. Ice skate at the Culver Ice Arena. Tour the family friendly Star Eco Station, a shelter for exotic animals.

Culver City is known for movies and films, and it welcomes residents and guests to enjoy culture, entertainment and attractions offered throughout the city.
