Is your tap water safe to drink?

Day or night, 24 / 7, we’ve got your pipes covered.

We’ve all experienced it.  Parched, we fill up our glass at the sink for a refreshing glass of water and start drinking, but quickly you realize the taste is off.  Is that metal?  Rust?

It’s unnerving to think that our tap water may be tainted.  We use our home’s water supply for imbibing, showering, washing our hands, and more.  We literally can’t survive without it.

Although officially Los Angeles’s water supply is known to be generally clean, studies confirm that it contains trace elements of Arsenic, Pharmaceutical waste, and even rocket fuel.

In reality, if your water doesn’t taste right, the most common explanation is your pipes.  Sometimes it may even look brown when it comes out of the faucet.  These are signs that you need to have your plumbing cleaned by a professional.

For the best plumbers Los Angeles has to offer, call Morningside Plumbers.  From hydro-jetting to flushing, we have a variety of methods for cleaning your pipes.

Another way to ensure the longevity of your pipes is by using them less, and instead relying on alternative sources for your drinking water.  Here are a few common options.

These are pitchers that contain internal filters, and get stored in the fridge when not in use.  They’re ideal for a couple who doesn’t consume as much water as, say, a family of four.  People like them for their simplicity, although you do have to replace the filters every couple months, and the cost can add up.

Faucet Filters

These mount right onto your faucet, and connect to the water supply by simply unscrewing the aerator, and replacing it with the filter.  Unlike a carafe that needs to be refilled every so often, all you have to do here is turn on your faucet.  However, the downside is that the rate of water flow is slow, which can be frustrating.

Bottled Water

This may be the most expensive option, but it’s hard to beat the taste of bottled water.  You’ll never have to worry about odd, unexpected flavors.  On the other hand, bottled water companies don’t necessarily have to abide by the same regulations as LADWP.  They’re not required to divulge the test results of their water.

Hidden Filters

Also called under-sink filters, these devices can hold a lot of water, and by storing them out of site, you’ll forget you even have one.  They connect to your faucet, which does require modifications performed by a professional plumber.  People enjoy this option because, frankly, they don’t have to see it.  But only invest in it if you’re comfortable with having some work done in your kitchen.

Reverse-osmosis filters

These are regarded as one of the best filters available.  They’re proven to remove a wide range of contaminants, and are the only filter certified to remove arsenic.  Unfortunately, they require a high degree of maintenance.  In order to keep them working properly, you have rinse them with bleach fairly regularly.  They also create 3 to 5 gallons of waste water for every gallon produced, so they’re not the most efficient option.
